The War of Art · Steven Pressfield
"Most of us have two lives. The life we live, and the unlived life within us. Between the two stands Resistance."
— Steven Pressfield
What I was resisting
I was resisting coming to terms with the truth: succeeding at a business I want to thrive, raising two kids, running a home, and having a life — all of it — requires that every part of every workday be intentional and structured. The days of living in a flow are over. I don't have the freedom to work late to catch up, and I don't want to miss my kids' lives. I am 47 years old in 5 days. Every minute counts. I was avoiding that accountability because if I don't set a real goal, I can't fail. But I know I am working well below my capacity.
My decision
90 days of serious routine, habit building, and time blocking — so I can be fully present in everything I do. When I work, I work. When I am with Sierra and Drew, I am actually there. Structure is not a cage. For me, it is what sets me free.
My 90-day goal
$8M
volume
April 1 to June 30, 2026
How I get there
1,700 people in my database — 850 I have never called
Real direct leads. Event attendees. Past inquiries. Warm contacts. 5 percent conversion = 42 real conversations. That is my $8M pipeline and I haven't even dialed yet.
3 to 4 open houses per week
Thursday 1-3pm. Friday 1-4pm. Sunday 2-4pm. This brings the business.
YouTube and social content every single week
1 long form and 3 short forms minimum. Content that works while I am not.
My nonnegotiables
1
Fitness back in my life. Daily. No exceptions.
Weight training Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Yoga Tuesday and Thursday. Trail run Saturday and Sunday. 8am to 9am, straight from school drop-off. Sauna and shower. Work starts at 10am.
2
5-5-4 calls. Five days a week.
5 past clients and SOI, 5 new prospects, 4 follow-ups. Every weekday at 10am. Logged in SureSend. 850 people in my database have never heard from me. That changes today.
3
YouTube. 1 long form and 3 short forms per week.
I film well and I know it works. I keep making excuses. My decision: one hour to edit or I send it out. Either way it goes live every week. No sitting on footage.
4
3 to 4 open houses per week.
Open houses bring the business. Revenue generating tasks go first. No rabbit hole projects until all 4 nonnegotiables are done each day.
5
Dedicated full focus family time. Every day.
When I am with Sierra and Drew, I am fully there. Phone down. No work. No half presence. Sit down family meals every day. This is the reason for all of it.
Also committing to
Time blocking is nonnegotiable
Every hour of every workday has a purpose. No rabbit holes until revenue tasks are done.
